The Greek and Roman Pantheon of gods and accompanying mythology is really great. However, Norse mythology kind of owns everything. They have Odin, Thor, the Valkyries, Loki and of course, Frejya, pictured above. Frejya is the Norse equivalent of Aphrodite, invoked in matters of love, fertility, beauty, gold and war. In addition to her regular duties, she is responsible for 50% of deceased soldiers. After the Valkyries claim the fallen in battle, half will go to Odin in the mythical after-plane Valhalla and the rest go to Fólkvangr, under Freyja’s protection. Her attributes are a feathered cloak and a mythical necklace called Brísingamen. She’s pretty badass I guess, one time she convinced Thor to dress up as a woman and marry a giant. Norse mythology is crazy!

THE VALKYRIES
Greek and Roman mythology has its place, but Norse mythology is way better. Of the Norse pantheon of gods, the Valkyries take the top spot. Their job was to choose who lived or fell in battle. Half of those chosen would be taken to Valhalla, the kingdom of Odin, to prepare for the epic final battle of the world, Ragnarok. Crazy. The other half would go to Fólkvangr, a field ruled over by the goddess Freyja. The Valkyries would ride into battle to claim their soldiers and shuttle them to either place, pretty badass. More modern depictions of the Valkyries have them riding through the skies with shield and sword to complete their mission. In reality, they probably wouldn’t have cared what they were wearing but idgaf.
