I think this is the third time I’ve posted about Daisy Buchanan, but the hubub about the upcoming movie put me in the mood to look at The Great Gatsby. Daisy is married to Tom Buchanan and is in love with Jay Gatsby, commonly known to all American High School Students as The Great Gatsby. And certainly, after the movie comes out, they’ll all know him as Leonardo DiCaprio. Shame. At the climax of the book, shit gets out of hand and Daisy basically ruins as many lives as she can in one night. Stupid Daisy, you used to be cool.

RALPH LAUREN SPRING 2012

As many of you know, The Great Gatsby is one of my favorite novels. I’ve styled the characters several times here and Daisy Buchanan is easily in my top posts. Last week at the Ralph Lauren show, I couldn’t help but think of the East Egg and West Egg gang. All the clues were there—detailing, feathers, drop-waists and lots of movement. If you’ve been a follower of Textbook for a while, you’ll know that my favorite collections get a lot of play each season. Let me say this, Ralph will get a lot of play. Good show.
JAY GATBSY, THE GREAT GATSBY

In a recent discussion at the office, we were going over our favorite books from high school. All the usuals made their appearances, Catcher in the Rye, Pride and Prejudice, A Separate Peace, Of Mice and Men and of course The Great Gatsby. I’ve posted Jay Gatsby before and Daisy twice but thought I’d take another look with the new collections. The brief rundown is—Gatsby is rich and has a crazy love affair with Daisy, but Daisy is a greedy trollop who only cares about status. Gatsby dies and despite their love for each other, that bitch doesn’t even show up to his funeral. Good god woman, have some respect. In the crazy Jazz age of East and West Egg, there were some great parties and plenty of money floating around, so you’d best believe Gatsby had some good style or…steez.

DAISY BUCHANAN, THE GREAT GATSBY

I’ve received tons of requests for a re-style of Daisy Buchanan. She was one of the very first posts I did back in 2009 so she was due. Having been unable to marry Gatsby prior to the story taking place, Daisy found herself a rich and suitable man in Tom Buchanan. However, once Gatsby begins hosting lavish parties and bathing in money, she rekindles their relationship. When her husband discovers the affair, he plays on Daisy’s greed and pride to end their love after an intense scene at The Plaza Hotel by exposing Gatsby as a bootlegger. Daisy rushes out of the city with Gatsby chasing after her and in their journey home, Daisy kills Myrtle (a minor character) with Gatsby’s car. Unable to identify the driver, Myrtle’s husband tracks Gatsby as the owner and murders him before committing suicide. Daisy, once in love with Gatsby, fails to attend his funeral and faces no penalty for her crime. Oh Daisy, I wanted to like you so much, but you’re disgusting.

the great gatsby is one of my favorite books of all time, right up there with catcher in the rye. it’s basically required reading for any american high school student and it chronicles the lives of a wealthy social circuit as seen through the eyes of nick carraway. mr. gatsby is a very well off resident of west egg and nobody knows very much about him. he’s a mysterious character with a secret love for daisy buchanan whom he fell in love with years before. the novel tells the story of their affair dotted with scenes of the rich and glamorous. however mysterious he is, there is no denying that jay gatsby is a well moneyed american royal type.
