Aphrodite, Goddess of Love

So here we have Aphrodite. There’s not really much to say about her, very self explanatory. She’s the Olympian goddess of love, beauty and sexuality. Whenever you feel that little twang at your heart or…um, elsewhere…that’s her. Well, that is if you worship the Olympian gods and if you do that’s totally fine.

Athena, Goddess of War
Editor’s Note: Hi! So from now on, my images will be hosted somewhere else outside of Tumblr. That means to actually see the post you’ll have to click through the dash. Annoying, I know but now the images are much higher resolution…totally worth the extra effort. I like you.

Let’s get back to they Olympians, shall we? This is Athena, she could kick your ass and spout the periodic table of elements while doing it. She is most commonly recognized as the goddess of war and wisdom but she was also the goddess of civilization, crafts, strength, strategy and the heroic endeavors. Most of us probably remember her from our high school lit classes and her travels with Odysseus. I love the fact that she has a library card but can wage a war like no other. Awesome.

this is hippolyta, queen of the amazons. in greek mythology, the amazons were a tribe of warrior women who could out battle any gladiator, grecian army or spartan, ya heard? hippolyta was ordained queen by ares, the god of war and ran a tight ship among her tribe. her most famous encounter was with hercules as he’s performing the ninth of his twelve labors. hercules was instructed to retrieve the girdle of hippolyta and she being so intrigued by him decided to give it to him freely. meanwhile, back at the okay corral…hera (queen of the gods) was growing angry with hercules and disguised herself as an amazon to warn the tribe that hercules would kidnap their queen (as theseus had done before). in a panic, they stormed hercules’ ship to attack but feeling betrayed hercules killed hippolyta and narrowly escaped. too bad, hippolyta was way cool.

breaking from the pop-up travel blogging—so for the past few days i’ve been vacationing in anguilla. thus, i’m in a very summer breezy state of mind. jumping off the circe post and drawing on my surroundings i decided to post on calypso. now, before disney ruined the image of calypso with pirates of the caribbean, she existed as a greek sea nymph. she was most known for her role in the odyssey where she imprisoned odysseus on her island. eventually, of course, odysseus was set free to return home to ithaca. of course, for island living you’re gonna look to flowy and colorful stylings.

2: you’re stuck here: dress and shoes by versace
3: fine, go, get out of here: dress by diane von furstenberg, shoes by celine, bag by bottega veneta
although she headlines in the odyssey, circe is a common figure in greek mythology. she wasn’t exactly up their with the olympians but she’s still a member of the club. her father was the sun god and mother was some sort of sea dwelling deity…somewhere between a god and a nymph. circe made her home in the clearing of a forest on an island, she spent her days turning enemies into animals, fun. upon the warning of his men and the foresight of hermes, odysseus was able to outsmart her and seek refuge at her mansion. taking into account she’s a witch and greek, i think it’s safe to say you’d see some draping and some crazy in her wardrobe.
