vampire weekend’s horchata will always remind me of the beach. while i was on vacation i listened to it over and over. i put our vacation video to the tune and now whenever i hear it i go straight back to anguilla. anyway, with a teasing of summer in new york, i couldn’t resist coming up with some looks inspired by the song. not exactly a character post but at least there are some parallels. enjoy.1: in december drinkin’ horchata: coat by robert geller, sweater by c.p. company, shorts by michael bastian, shoes by c.p. company2: with lips and teeth to ask how my day went: shirt and bag by bottega veneta, shorts by michael bastian, vintage shoes3: here comes the feeling you thought you’d forgotten: shirt by michael bastian, pants by missoni, i wear no shoes on the beach.

in an homage to tim burton’s announcement, i give you the prince from sleeping beauty. most of us know the story from the walt disney version, prince phillip vanquishes maleficent to save princess aurora. the original however, isn’t quite the same. prince phillip is actually prince john, maleficent is actually his ogress mother and aurora has children. most of the details are laid out here in the original sleeping beauty post. anyway, i hope you enjoy prince john from sleeping beauty.1: stumbling upon a castle in the forest: coat by agnes b, glove things by rag and bone, pants by michael bastian, vintage boots2: i’m living a double life: trench coat and scarf by gilded age, jeans by bottega veneta, boots by burberry prorsum3: vanquishing some evil: coat by burberry prorsum, pants by cp company, boots by ferragamo

the great gatsby is one of my favorite books of all time, right up there with catcher in the rye. it’s basically required reading for any american high school student and it chronicles the lives of a wealthy social circuit as seen through the eyes of nick carraway. mr. gatsby is a very well off resident of west egg and nobody knows very much about him. he’s a mysterious character with a secret love for daisy buchanan whom he fell in love with years before. the novel tells the story of their affair dotted with scenes of the rich and glamorous. however mysterious he is, there is no denying that jay gatsby is a well moneyed american royal type.1: casual on west egg: coat by billy reid, scarf by gant by michael bastian, sweater by ferragamo, jeans by bottega veneta, shoes by dries van noten, bag by gilded age2: party at gatsby mansion: paul smith head to toe3: gasp, gatsby is a bootlegger: coat by michael bastian, shirt, tie and cardigan by gilded age, jeans by billy reid, vintage boots

    michael bastian a/w 2010
thoughts: yesterday evening i posted the video of the michael bastian finale but you can see the clothes a little better with these images. can’t really say enough about this collection, i would wear 90% of what was put down the runway from the suiting to mb’s signature cargo pants (aka real cargo pants). check the previous post to see a quick little video and my thoughts in general but needless to say i will be saving up for this stuff like nobody’s business. rivals my love from ferragamo, c.p. company and trussardi 1911 fall 2010 shows.1: remember when wayne talks to the fender in wayne’s world? i talk to this leather jacket…it will be mine, oh yes…it will be mine2: can you imagine the cookie you have to eat to get that fortune cookie scarf? a giant fortune cookie with cashmere inside? i’m down.3: the patch on that blazer is tops but the fair isle sweater completely stole me heart.

i only requested one invitation for fashion week this season and it was michael bastian. their pr team was kind enough to squeeze me in last minute and i was all but too happy to attend. if you’ve been reading this blog for a while then you know of my dedication to this designer. the a/w 2010 show was a well executed image of the michael bastian brand. among early favorites for myself are the fair isle sweaters, the fortune cookie scarf, a leather jacket to rival my own and a nicely trimmed overcoat (shown with boxers), the sunglasses and the vests. among other pieces there were brightly colored trousers and blazers, the sort of thing one longs to pull off but rarely can. unfortunately, i wasn’t able to record mr. bastian’s appearance after the finale but i can assure you there was uproarious response from the likes of linda fargo, jim moore, hamish bowles, john malkovich, brad goreski, rafe totengco, peter som, adam rappaport…are you getting how much the world loves mb?

also, i live tweeted like crazy.
