CHACHA DIGREGORIO, GREASE

Since you all loved Sandy, I thought I’d take a stab at ChaCha. Who could forget how she stole the spotlight from Sandy at the National Bandstand competition, or that crazy dress she wore. Alas, I could not find a dress to match her light blue on black with crazy ruffles and fishnet ensemble.

LYDIA BENNET, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE

What’s an Elizabeth Bennet post without one of her sisters? Let’s look at Lydia, the flirtatious frivolous one, the carefree one, the one who like just doesn’t care about anything. Her behavior puts her family’s reputation in jeopardy along with her own well-being. After running away with the villainous Mr. Wickham and he is bribed to marry her, she considers it a fine marriage. I don’t know, Lydia’s just a bit of an airhead. I know a lot of girls like Lydia and sooner or later things catch up with them and they go crazy. But it’s always fun to watch.

continuing with the music theme, let’s look at roxanne. for those of you not familiar, she’s the subject of the police’s song roxanne. she is a hooker and it’s about a man who’s in love with her and saying the hooking part of her life is over. the song is posted below for your enjoyment. she’s actually not the first hooker to show up on textbook either, lady marmalade is around here somewhere. anyway, this one was pretty interesting because it’s kind of hard to look at clothes and ask yourself, “would a hooker walk the streets in this?” although i would say that this roxanne would’ve been the best dressed streetwalker on the corner. lots of short dresses, fur and crazy shoes to be seen.

take a minute to listen to the audio clip below. i love this song so much, always puts a smile on my face. the song sings of elenore, who is styled above. written in 1968, i imagine the elenore of then to be one of those music loving free spirit types. it was a great era for music and just in general, lots of moving and shaking happening. elenore of today would be similar, music loving, free spirited and just one of those personalities that’s so attractive. not so much the coolest girl in school but that girl that nobody has a problem with. gee, she’s swell.

empress theodora of byaznatium was one of the first rulers i learned about in high school. she was part of that massive curriculum of ‘world history’ that we were taught over two consecutive school years. as far as her accomplishments, i’m ashamed to say i can’t tell you many of them. i recall her in a positive light and i do remember that it was under her and her husband (emperor justinian) that hagia sofia was built. the most clear images i have of empress theodora are mosaics. perhaps it was the artist in me that was naturally drawn towards the culture of each country we studied rather than the history itself but i thought those mosaics were amazing. the time and craft put in to each one is insane, i guess thats what you do when you don’t have tumblr. so when styling her for ‘the now’ i reverted back to those mosaics and the result was patterns, applique and a decidedly warm weather wardrobe.
