    hermes a/w 2010
thoughts: yes for more color. hermes is another one of my favorite unattainable brands. i’ve seen coats in there for $15,000+ and have tried them on in hopes that somebody will just give them to me. anyway. weird. i’m always a big fan of what they put out and i’m so pleased to see a nice palette from them (spring was a little to brownish formy taste). i really love that zip up sweater with the navy trim, the scarf and db coat in #2 and even the suede jacket in #3. i’ll never buy any of this but it’s fun to imagine having some extreme luxury.

sara crewe of a little princess had a tough life. when she was just a child in finishing school she learned of her father’s death. to add insult to injury, their great fortune was lost by a friend who invested unwisely. left penniless and all by herself she becomes a servant to her boarding school and the wretched miss. minchin. the story holds that she finds comfort for years by imagining herself as a princess (essentially her old self). as luck would have it for sara, her father’s friend who lost all their money regained the fortune and by happy coincidence moves in across the street from her school. the story unfolds and the two are united. sara has a new guardian who restores her previous life (minus her father) and disgraces the greedy miss minchin. if i’ve learned one thing working in the fashion industry it’s that those that have wild imaginations tend to have the best style and for those that think they’re princesses it goes double. so imagine if ms. crewe grew older, a princess in her own right with a limitless checkbook? jealous? yah you are.1: top by erin fetherston, skirt by luisa beccaria, shoes by reem acra2: dress by lela rose, trench by burberry prorsum, shoes by hermes, bag by chanel3: dress by oscar de la renta, necklace by reem acra, shoes by michael kors

as i said in a recent post, one of my favorite things about stories is the transformation of a character. sometimes it’s obvious sometimes it’s subtle. well, to examine an obvious case just take a look at the count of monte cristo-a classic tale of revenge. the hero begins the novel as a happy go lucky sailor with a modest living. when jealousy strikes his best friend, his life is turned upside down and he spends fifteen years in chateau d’if prison. whilst enjoying his lovely stay there he works with a fellow prisoner to piece together just how and why his life took such a nasty turn and to dig an escape tunnel. unfortunately for his friend, the tunnel claims his life but just before dying he shares the secret of the treasure of monte cristo with edmond. escaping in the body bag of his friend, edmond is free to seek the treasure and exact revenge on all those who betrayed him. so you see, edmond is transformed from happy fisherman to miserable prisoner to maniacal count. i won’t spill the beans of his revenge but rest assured all ends well for edmond and horribly for his adversaries.1: edmond the fisherman: sweater by missoni, shirt by louis vuitton, pants by hermes, weather boots by dsquared2: edmond, the count of monte cristo: coat and bag by burberry prorsum, shirt, tie and vest by gaultier, pants by robert geller, shoes by rag and bone3: exacting revenge: coat by dries van noten, shirt, tie and sweater by thom browne, pants and bag by louis vuitton, shoes by burberry prorsum

heathcliff of wuthering heights, what a tragic case of unrequited love.  he really was a sad character.  he was adopted, only to fall in love with his sister, then banished to servitude by his brother, exiled by the love of his life’s waste of a marriage and then finally back to destroy all those who betrayed him.  you really want to root for heathcliff in the beginning but you slowly start to realize that being a calculating and manipulative type will never truly work out for you.  by the end you just feel sorry for him and his entire life, sad, dour and tragic.  poor heathcliff.  let his story be a lesson to those who dwell on the past and seek revenge.  1: catherine, i’m emo, love me: jacket by burberry prorsum, shirt by dries van noten, pants and shoes by viktor and rolf2: working for my adopted brother: jacket by john galliano, henley by missoni, pants by robert geller, shoes by clarks3: i’ve made a ton of money and now plan to exact my revenge: coat by salvatore ferragamo, shirt and tie by hermes, jeans and shoes by bottega veneta
