both balmain addicts and tory burch enthusiasts probably think of oscar de la renta in the highest regard. that universal appeal is something so hard to come by in the fashion industry. after seeing some de la renta pieces at the met costume institute as a kid i was hooked. to inspire somebody that young with a product so refined is pretty remarkable but as you can see from above it’s no surprise.
when the invite came from their team to visit the showroom to see fall 2010 and poke around the veritable bat cave of the fashion industry, i couldn’t resist. for an hour or so last week i examined the collection up close and gained a whole new respect for mr. de la renta. the silhouettes never cease to impress, but the detail is the heart and soul of the work. you can see the whole journey in the video above. of course after moseying through the showrooms, atelier, bumping into a former classmate working as a designer and meeting alex bolen, i finished the evening off with an alagash white and a cheeseburger deluxe. nothing like oscar de la renta and cheeseburgers, nothing i tell you.
