JAY GATBSY, THE GREAT GATSBY

In a recent discussion at the office, we were going over our favorite books from high school. All the usuals made their appearances, Catcher in the Rye, Pride and Prejudice, A Separate Peace, Of Mice and Men and of course The Great Gatsby. I’ve posted Jay Gatsby before and Daisy twice but thought I’d take another look with the new collections. The brief rundown is—Gatsby is rich and has a crazy love affair with Daisy, but Daisy is a greedy trollop who only cares about status. Gatsby dies and despite their love for each other, that bitch doesn’t even show up to his funeral. Good god woman, have some respect. In the crazy Jazz age of East and West Egg, there were some great parties and plenty of money floating around, so you’d best believe Gatsby had some good style or…steez.

LET ME BORROW THAT TOP

Was hanging out uptown yesterday and stopped by Ferragamo. As you might recall, this was one of my favorite collections from Fall 2010 and that sweater was one of my favorite pieces. It’s in the fifth avenue shop for a mere $1300.00 and is the softest most comfortable thing ever. I have $5.00 saved up so far.

i had a few requests come through for violet baudelaire from a series of unfortunate events. glad i did, because all the baudelaire children are pretty awesome, maybe i’ll do klaus soon. anyways, all the baudelaire kids have special talents…in the case of violet she could invent anything and essentially solve any problem, awesome. her parents were adventurers so you can imagine that she grew up in a fun household and was quite the interesting character. of course, the stories details the kid’s battle with the evil count olaf who will stop at nothing to get at their orphaned inheritance. i recommend.
1: pasta puttanesca: dress and tights by bottega veneta, cape by vena cava, shoes by dries van noten
2: escaping from count olaf’s car on the tracks: dress by miu miu, shoes by ferragamo
3: stuck at aunt josephine’s house: coat by 3.1 phillip lim, dress and tights by prada, shoes by miu miu

yesterday marked the 50th anniversary of to kill a mockingbird. as such, let’s commemorate it with a scout finch post. i never thought of maycomb as a particularly fashionable town, but i always thought scout was pretty kickass. she reminds me a lot of elizabeth bennet, just somebody who’ll call you on your shit and knows right from wrong etc. anyway, she spent her summers with her brother jem and their friend dill. after a civil trial hits town, their lives get really interesting. scout’s father atticus defends an innocent man charged with raping a woman in town. despite evidence to exonerate the accused, he is found guilty and shot as he tries to escape prison. the girl’s family is humiliated and her father vows revenge against atticus. eventually, he attacks scout and her brother jem as they come home from a halloween pageant. luckily, their elusive neighbor boo radley (the subject of many scout, jem and dill’s summer adventures) comes to their aid. there’s a lot more to it but you should find the rest out on your own. it’s one of the greatest books ever.
1: watching the trial from the balcony: dress by rachel comey, shoes and socks by marc jacobs, bag by ralph lauren
2: hanging around maycomb with jem and dill: dress and coat thing by marc jacobs, boots by michael kors
3: picking up a gift from boo radley: dress by cynthia steffe, shoes by ferragamo
