OLYMPIA LE-TAN X SPIKE JONZE
Spotted this on Garance Dore’s jam, and it’s great:
Olympia Le-Tan, most known for her book clutches, and filmmaker Spike Jonze collaborated on this video. It’s a fine example of stop-animation and features one of my favorite literary characters, Mina Harker from Bram Stoker’s Dracula and of course, Macbeth.

With the return of True Blood, everybody’s favorite pornographic program with a strong storyline, I was thinking about vampires. Of course, when anybody with half a brain and a weird reading list thinks of vampires, they think of Bram Stoker and the original tale. I’ve posted on Dracula before, his victims and his wives. But, Prada Fall 2012 in specific read very Nosferatu, so I figured it was worth revisiting. So here he is, the original blood sucking BAMF, Dracula.

did you know dracula was mormon? well…i mean he was a bigamist and had three wives, could’ve been on big love. anyway, his three wives lived in his castle with him and found it amusing to prey on his guests. now you may remember from some dracula posts a few weeks ago, that one of these guests was his lawyer, jonathan harker. while staying with the count, mr. harker got pretty familiar with these horrific vampire brides and they tortured him like crazies. think about it though, if you’re immortal…i bet you really hone your sense of style. hmmm…also, these brides would snap that bella bitch like a twig, LIKE A TWIG.

continuing on with bram stoker’s dracula, may i present lucy westerna. lucy was mina’s best friend. she was the beautiful, angelic 19 year old daughter of an aristocratic family. she is loved by three suitors, all who propose to her on the same day but her health quickly and mysteriously deteriorates. one of her suitors calls his friend, dr. van helsing to remedy her illness. they soon learn that dracula has been draining lucy’s blood and unfortunately, it’s too late. soon after she is buried, children in town begin disappearing and several report seeing a “bloofer” (read: beautiful) woman walking the streets. that bloofer is lucy’s damned vampire self. dracula had doomed her to vampirism and it is up to van helsing and the men who loved her to set her soul free. rather gruesomely, they destroy the vampire and free lucy’s soul. that’s some heavy shit.

presenting the original vampire, count motherfucking dracula. unlike other vampires i might mention, he doesn’t sparkle. he doesn’t hate werewolves, he commands them. he can shape shift into anything and change the weather. he lives with three vampire brides in his castle and wants to take over the world.
don’t mess with count dracula, he’ll bite you. in all seriousness, i’m begging you to read the original by bram stoker…it’s so damn good.
