as you might imagine, i spend a lot of my time in stores. thus, a solid retail experience is very important to me. recently i stopped in the marc jacobs collection store for their 70% off sale. i have only ever bought two things here about a year ago but even so the girl who sold them to me knows where i work, always remembers me and has learned my shopping style to a t. now she knows as well as i that i’m not going to buy anything yet the friendliness persists which i find genuine and refreshing. it keeps me going back and i wish i knew her name but she is dark skinned with long black hair. on the other hand, the marc by marc jacobs store is a completely different story. it’s like falling into a lion’s den of beautiful people who don’t think their jobs or your time is worth any trouble. i’ve bought a lot of stuff here over the past year but i’m done with it, the store associates are too cliquey for my taste. they hop back and forth between the many marc by marc outposts in the west village and carry on very personal conversations. you can’t help but feel excluded from their special club of affected beautybots. and to be frank, the product is not worth my money either (don’t get me started on the ‘stuff store’). regrettably, marc by marc jacobs is a diffusion of not only marc jacobs collection but marc jacobs collection service. wise up to the retail scene marc by marc staffers because right now you’re in a sad state.
1: frye for marc by marc jacobs boots
2: marc jacobs collection boots
these boots always come around when it starts to get a little colder. like so many of my favorite things, these were a birthday gift (from my brother) and they remain the most comfortable pair of shoes i own. they’re good for train rides, going up north and when it’s generally just a nasty ass mess outside. always wear with jeans, and never ever tuck them. also, it has to be sad…the fringe doesn’t really move when i walk, that would be weird.
1: wilderness winter crazy boots: yuketen (birthday gift from the bro de bergdorfs)
continuing on my shoe rampage today, i present my new ‘old standbys’ by rachel comey. every winter i save and make a good investment on a pair of boots. a good and solid pair is essential to last through the elements. additionally i seem to be the only boy in the city who is vehemently against red wings (i’m sorry, they make your feet disproportionally large) even when you pair them with your entire j.crew wardrobe (please, mix it up). anyway, i spent the greater part of the last hour researching all of her man shoes and have ordained her my new cobbling master. so, pray be upstanding for rachel comey. her womenswear is outstanding as well.
1: we built this city on rock and roll: rachel comey burnside boots w/ removable (removed) fringe, $395.00 (ouch, well worth it though)
p.s. these are really broken in by now.
