macbeth continues to fascinate me years and years after reading it, i suppose that’s the mark of a great work. so may i present the three witches. there are two reasons why i still think of it often, the first being my teacher who assigned it to us in high school was so into literature and teaching. she really got us excited about books and that’s quite a feat considering most of us were hyper-privileged and under-enthused. the second is the work itself, i love the story and all the manipulation. you can tear macbeth apart over and over and arrive at a different conclusion each time. who really started all the trouble that night? was it the witches for informing macbeth he would be king? was it lady macbeth for pushing him to commit the crime? was it macbeth himself? it’s almost too fun to think about. i like to think it was the witches though, the personification of evil. plus, they’re the original mean girls…and who doesn’t love the idea of three women roaming the earth intent on disrupting the lives of mortals? everybody loves it, perhaps that’s why it’s pops up in so much work across the world. oh my god, macbeth is so good, must read again.

why look, it’s a gratuitous drawing of a pair of crazy boots. like i said earlier, i once was a design student at parsons and never really stopped designing once i left. so i have sketchbooks literally full and bursing with clothing, shoe, handbag and all sorts of designs. i’ve decided to post them from time to time. these are one of my favorites, they’re completely like the clothes i love to see, balmain, rodarte, ann demeulemeester among others. worn by the likes of kate lamphear and her kind. so i hope you enjoy them.

i give you bertha mason. this one may be a little bit of a stretch, but indulge me. undoubtedly my favorite character in the charlotte bronte novel, jane eyre. bertha made the story a whole lot more interesting and is characteristic in novels of the time. there were often mysterious elements that could be construed as ghosts, predators or in bertha’s case, insane attic dwelling first wives. indeed, bertha was mr. rochester’s first wife and he felt obliged to take care of her despite her lunacy. naturally, bertha hated everything about jane eyre and took violent action against those around her as a result. who could forget the melodramatic shredding of jane’s wedding veil? and then of course, she really lost it and burned down the entire house, killing herself in the process. she was a sad figure, essentially imprisoned at the hands of a man who rejected her and forced to watch the life she was meant to have be given to jane. too bad so sad. she probably wore whatever she could find up in that crazy attic.
