OLYMPIA LE-TAN X SPIKE JONZE
Spotted this on Garance Dore’s jam, and it’s great:
Olympia Le-Tan, most known for her book clutches, and filmmaker Spike Jonze collaborated on this video. It’s a fine example of stop-animation and features one of my favorite literary characters, Mina Harker from Bram Stoker’s Dracula and of course, Macbeth.
Check it out, well worth the time.
do you know dracula? he ate the cullens one time.
glad that is out of the way, on to mina harker. in bram stoker’s original novel, mina was the wife of jonathan harker who was imprisoned in dracula’s castle with three crazy she vampires. eventually, he was able to escape to budapest. mina, his dutiful and angelic lover visits him and the pair marry before returning to england. when they return they find mina’s crazy friend lucy has been killed by a blood sucking beast! dracula. oh no, shit’s getting real. the two join up with van helsing to destroy dracula forever but before they do that, dracula sinks his teeth in to mina and curses her to turn vampire when she dies. ruh-roh.
so, mina and dracula now share this strange psychic and magical connection but eventually the group takes dracula down and mina’s soul is spared. it’s one of my favorite books ever.
