In your article about Galliano's replacement you mentioned that the French government has restrictions on couture design. Out of curiosity, I wonder what those restrictions are? If you get a chance could you please explain this a bit more. Thanks, by the way I really enjoy reading your blog.
In order to be considered a true couture house, you have to be sanctioned by the French government. There are strict laws, I’m not sure of all of them. However, it is regulations such as these that prevent any Tom, Dick or Harry from claiming they are couture designers. Without the legal permission of the French government, you cannot truly be considered a couture designer. I do not know the exact laws off-hand but I do know they mention number of employees, number of showings, clientele etc. Google it for more info. I am tired.
