i always thought of queen isabella as a rather severe woman. a lot of times her entire rule goes unnoticed because of her involvement with christopher columbus. we all learn about their little partnership from elementary school videos, oh, how i miss those. but lest we forget, isabella ran a little show called the inquisition. in other words she expelled all jews and muslims from spain. not exactly the most enlightened of decisions, but, to be fair she had hesitations about expelling the jews because of the negative economic effect it posed. how noble. despite this hiccup in her political career, she and her husband ferdinand did a great deal for spain. under their reign, the country flourished and was set on the course to become one of the greatest nations in europe (in my opinion, it still is). she is a fine example of that age old question—do the ends justify the means? that’s for you to decide.
1: praying on the battlefield (she did this to inspire soldiers): dress by celine, shoes by threeasfour
2: receiving columbus at court: dress by marchesa
3: casual isabella: dress by proenza schouler, jacket by balmain, shoes by miu miu
